Away from the office it sometimes gets a whole lot more exciting when the clock is ticking away before the bulldozers arrive!
In April 2005, just short of its one hundredth birthday, the mass-production of cars at Longbridge came to a sudden end when the MG Rover company collapsed, throwing 6000 people out of work and devastating the local community. The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, as custodians of a comprehensive archive of material relating to Longbridge covering its entire history, sprung into action to rescue as much as possible of the remaining heritage. With the permission of the administrators (PriceWaterhouseCooper), the purchasers of the MG Rover business (Nanjing Automotive Company) and the developers of the site (St Modwen) much material was rescued and brought back to the Heritage Motor Centre. This talk will tell you what we did and what we saved.
