Mini Miglia Second only to British Touring Cars in 2007

At the end of 2007 a panel of judges for leading motorsport publication Motorsport News named the top five racing championships in the UK, with the Dunlop Mini Miglia Challenge finishing second to the British Touring Car Championship and ahead of other high profile series such as British GT, British Formula Ford, Mazda Max5 and the MINI Challenge. The ten judges, who are all leading motorsport journalists and commentators said: 'The tense three way scrap for honours went down to a nail-biting finale at Pembrey and Andy Hack emerged victorious over Kelly Rogers and Endaf Owens. But the mighty scraps between them throughout the season stood out for the judges. The race at Thruxton in July will probably never be bettered.'

Guinness World Record attempt at IMM Holland

During the IMM 2008 we will offer you the opportunity to enter the largest parade of Minis in the world. On Sunday 11th May, during the IMM 2008, we are aiming to break the Guinness World Record for the largest parade of Minis. This attempt has been officially registered with the Guinness World Records organisation and will be scrutinised by a team of officials. The current Guinness World Record is 973 Minis and dates from August 2001. We are going to try to set a new record of at least 1500 Minis, both classic and new Mini. The idea is for as many Minis as possible to drive in convoy along a route near the IMM 2008 location. The route will be closed to other traffic and marshals will be used. We also have to ensure that the record attempt conforms to certain conditions in order to qualify for official recognition. You can register on this site on the IMM 2008 Information page.

26 March 2008 Saving Longbridge Heritage

Heritage Motor Centre Archivist, Gillian Bardsley, presents a fascinating talk on how the heritage of Longbridge will be preserved for future generations.

This lecture from Gillian Bardlsey illustrates that the life of the Archivist does not entirely consist of making lists of dusty volumes in dank basements. Away from the office it sometimes gets a whole lot more exciting when the clock is ticking away before the bulldozers arrive!

In April 2005, just short of its one hundredth birthday, the mass-production of cars at Longbridge came to a sudden end when the MG Rover company collapsed, throwing 6000 people out of work and devastating the local community. The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, as custodians of a comprehensive archive of material relating to Longbridge covering its entire history, sprung into action to rescue as much as possible of the remaining heritage. With the permission of the administrators (PriceWaterhouseCooper), the purchasers of the MG Rover business (Nanjing Automotive Company) and the developers of the site (St Modwen) much material was rescued and brought back to the Heritage Motor Centre. This talk will tell you what we did and what we saved.
